At Holly Tree Day Nursery we pride ourselves in offering a quality service to all our children and their parents. In order to offer a fun, caring, learning environment for all our children to feel secure, happy and settled, we ask all our newcomers to visit prior to starting nursery to help promote a solid feeling of security and trust. We would ask that you and your child spend time in the room, participating in play activities and routines at different stages of the day, so that staff and nursery daily activities can be discussed at home, to provide knowledge and understanding of the change from home care to nursery care. This enables us to build a positive relationship with you the parents, as you know your child’s likes and dislikes.
Here at Holly Tree we recognise that Parents/Carers are a child’s first and most enduring educators. Building relationships with parents/carers and working closely is beneficial for each child’s learning and development. In order for us as professionals to establish a partnership with parents/carers and staff to share their knowledge and understanding of the child/children to plan stimulating and challenging learning opportunities as well as planning to meet each child’s individual needs.
Therefore it is within our policy to visit the child/children at home before they start nursery. Time is taken to find out about the child /children’s likes, dislikes and interests, and opportunity is given to complete all necessary nursery paperwork before the child/children start nursery. When possible the child’s key person will also attend to begin to build a foundation with both the child/children and parent/carer.
The visit provides the opportunity to :
- Establish early, positive contact
- See children in their own familiar setting
- Meet other family members and pets who are important to the children
- Understand the anxieties children may feel when starting nursery, and also understand the wealth of learning that goes on at home.
